What’s in Season? Your Summer Flower Guide

Not all flowers are created equal and not all are available all year round. At Peonies Do Bloom, we always work seasonally, which means the flowers you find in our studio or at our workshops are the ones that are naturally thriving.

Why does that matter? Because seasonal flowers are:

• Fresher

• More sustainable

• Better value

• And so much prettier

Here’s our guide to the best summer blooms in the UK, plus tips for how to use them at home.

🌼 What Flowers Are in Season in Summer?

Summer is when nature shows off. You’ll find the most colour, scent and variety from June through August, and that means more room to play when it comes to arranging.

Some of our summer favourites include:

Dahlias

Big, sculptural and available in every shade imaginable. They work beautifully in statement bouquets and centrepieces.

Sweet Peas

Delicate and scented, with a soft fluttery shape. We love using them as filler for airy, romantic designs.

Garden Roses

Fuller and more natural-looking than standard roses. Often ruffled, with gorgeous scent and movement.

Nigella (Love-in-a-Mist)

Whimsical and textured, great for adding height and lightness to arrangements.

Cosmos

Feathery foliage and daisy-like heads that are perfect for wild, garden-inspired styles.

Snapdragons

Tall, architectural, and available in dreamy pastels or punchy brights.

Scabiosa

Soft, bobbly heads that give arrangements a meadowy feel. A floral designer’s secret weapon.

💐 Why Seasonal Flowers Matter

Working with the seasons means you’re getting flowers at their freshest and they haven’t been flown halfway across the world or chilled for days in transit. They last longer, look more alive, and support local growers.

We use seasonal flowers across everything we do:

  • Hand-tied bouquets

  • Event arrangements

  • Floral workshops in East London

  • Brand activations and installations

No two designs are ever exactly the same, and that’s exactly how we like it.

🛠 Tips for Arranging at Home

If you’re buying flowers this summer, here are a few quick tips:

  • Choose a mix of focal flowers, filler, and foliage (we go into this more in our workshops!)

  • Always trim your stems at an angle and change the water every 2 days

  • Don’t overcrowd the vase, let each bloom breathe

  • Group by tone or texture for a modern, minimal look

  • Or mix clashing colours for something joyful and unexpected

Want to learn how to do it properly? Come to one of our workshops — they’re relaxed, hands-on, and full of good vibes.
